Beam Me Up Scotty! -Habitare, Helsinki

HEI flower pots is a design concept which envisions year 2030 future scenario where family members separated by distance, can feel engaged with each other via networked living plants. By that time personal biometric health sensors are widely in use and culturally accepted. This data is fed to HEI growth system. Feeding personal biometric health sensor data to closed-circulation plant growth system, the personal well being is directly controlling the plants well-being – if the person feels bad, the plant gets less water & light and topples, if health improves, the plant flourishes. To use pots as discreet and unobtrusive communication devices, instead of keeping your plant your self, give it to a loved-one, and get his or hers in return. Connecting pots to the net, your loved-ones well-being can be seen from the plant. By nurturing the plant, this act of care is communicated to the other pot.
Project is done in collaboration with Kristian Aarseth as a part of the international design contest beam me up scotty hosted by +studio in Helsinki. Three teames were invited to create a future scenario based on megatrends for the year 2030 in the future.
